COMMUNITY COMMISSIONS

WHAT ARE THE COMMUNITY COMMISSIONS?

Thanks to the generosity of many former Fromm Composer Fellows, who are donating their remarkable creative gifts, we have 53 one-minute composition commissions that will be created and premiered as part of our 80th Anniversary. Each commissioner was paired through a hidden randomized selection process that matched them with a former Fromm Composer Fellow. The deadline for signing up was November 17, 2023. Each new piece will be completed and ready for performance by March 31, 2024.

As part of our 80th Anniversary celebration, each new will be video recorded by the performer or ensemble for which the piece was commissioned by June 30, 2024. At that point, each new work will be featured in a series of online World Premieres leading up to our 80th anniversary Composers Conference! All videos will be please recorded in .mov or. mp4 format (standard iPhone or Android videos) in a landscape setting, to allow for each video editing and posting.

Who commissioned these works?

Commissions were open and available to all individuals and ensembles up to 5 people, of every level and experience level. Whether a student, professional or adult amateur musician, this was a wonderful and affordable way to expand the repertoire, diversify concert programs, and to simply challenge and stretch our musical horizons!

Where do the donations go?

Each commissioned work was generously donated by a former Fromm Composition Fellow, allowing for the $100 commissioning fee to go directly towards supporting and expanding the Composers Conference's community building projects and efforts, such as the CMW Commissioned Work and the New Music/New Communities Initiative.
