Applications for our 2025 Fromm Foundation Composer Fellows are now OPEN. The application deadline is Jan. 1, 2025. Fellows will participate in intensive seminars, rehearsals, workshops and public colloquia with our distinguished 2025 Guest Composers Melinda Wagner (WEEK 2) and Felipe Lara (WEEK 3). Composer Fellows will be at the Conference July 20-August 3, 2025 in Boscawen, New Hampshire (Avaloch Farm Music Institute). Accepted Fellows must be in residence at the Conference for this full two-week period. Fellows from previous years are welcome to reapply, but preference will be given to first-time applicants in order to practice greater equity and representation for this opportunity.
Under the guidance of Artistic Director Kurt Rohde, each Fromm Foundation Composer Fellow has a work publicly performed and professionally recorded by the Conference Ensemble, in addition to collaborating with the Fromm Foundation CPI Fellows on new works. The Composers Conference nurtures the creation, performance, and appreciation of music, serving as a catalyst for conscientious creativity through shared wisdom, expertise, and diverse artistry. APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2025 COMPOSER FELLOWSHIPS ARE NOW OPEN
The Composers Conference invites composers to submit TWO works for 2025 Guest Composers Melinda Wagner and Felipe Lara to review. Along with AD Kurt Rohde, they will select up eight (8) Fromm Foundation Composer Fellows for the 2025 Composers Conference. Works may be in any medium; including recordings is strongly recommended.
Application deadline is Jan. 1, 2025. Notification of accepted applicants will be before March 1, 2025. There is no fee to apply. Accepted composers will receive a Fromm Foundation Fellowship, covering tuition and accommodations in full. Female, trans, non-binary, queer, and musicians of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
Selected Fromm Foundation Fellows will be asked to submit a score and parts (in PDF and hard copy formats) for performance at the 2025 Composers Conference by June 1, 2025. This work may include any combination of the following: flute w/doublings (1), oboe w/doublings (1), clarinet w/doublings (1), bassoon w/doublings (1), horn (1), trumpet (1), trombone (1); piano (1); percussion (1 - percussion instrument list provided); violin (2); viola (1); cello (1); 1 bass; soprano (1). Works with electronics are not permitted. An additional opportunity to compose a collaborative work for the 2025 CPI Fellows is also available to the Composer Fellows; details for this opportunity will become available before April 1, 2025.Composer Fellows will be in residence at the Conference July 20-August 3, 2025. Accepted Fellows must be in residence at the Conference for this full two-week period. Please note that all participants for the 2025 Conference must be up to date with full vaccination for the COVID-19 virus not less than 1 month prior to the beginning of the 2025 Conference.
Submission Guidelines
Scores submitted for judging may include any instrumentation. Electronic works are acceptable, but we strongly encourage that at least one work include acoustic instrumental writing.Application Fee: NONE

1) All applications must be made through New Music Engine. Complete submission information and guidelines are available here and on the New Music Engine application webpage.
2) The first round of judging is anonymous. Please remove any identifying marks on scores and recording files. Materials with identifying markings will not be reviewed.
3) Please submit TWO works. Scores or any other notated format should be uploaded in PDF format. Accompanying recordings for each score should be uploaded as audio files. No file downloads (Google Drive, DropBox, etc.) will be accepted for work samples. If you are submitting video files instead of audio files, please upload links to the video on YouTube, Vimeo, or a similar online player in the application’s “ADDITIONAL COMMENTS” field. Please DO NOT provide links that require video to be downloaded. Video MUST be viewable online; materials that require download or that have identifying markers will NOT be reviewed.4) Please complete the online application form as fully as possible.

Avaloch Farm Music Institute is a residential arts center designed to serve as a catalyst for unfettered artistic exploration, creation and performance. AFMI provides an environment to inspire and empower early, mid-career and distinguished musicians to develop meaningful artistic content and collaborations to share with the world-at-large.
The center is located in Boscawen, NH, a small agricultural community 75 miles north of Boston. The campus is down a dirt country road surrounded by acres of woods, cornfields and apple orchards. You will have access to meadows and forests for hiking and a beautiful lake for swimming and boating. Although you will be provided with everything you will need on the campus, there is a home-made ice cream shop located on a local farm within walking distance. You will also be within 20 minutes driving from a multitude of restaurants, shops and attractions. Concord, the state capital is 10 miles away. If you are an avid hiker, NH presents many hiking opportunities in the area.
AFMI provides hotel-quality, fully air-conditioned bedrooms that are charming and sufficiently sound-proofed to make them suitable for private practice. The living areas are set up in two person suites with bathroom facilities within each suite. Throughout the campus, there are also large rehearsal rooms with grand pianos, wooded rehearsal cabins and several additional practice rooms in the basement.
Three delicious, healthy, creative meals a day are served in the dining room, prepared by a resident chef and his staff. There are always snacks, fruit, and beverages available, and each suite has a small refrigerator for personal use. There is a laundry room, fitness room and ping-pong and pool tables for use by all residents.
